response to The Photograph as an Art Object by Felicity Cole
This article highlight four artist who, though originally trained in other mediums, take on photography and have even gone as far as winning the Deutsche Borse prize for photography. Mixing two dimensional photographs with abstractions to the film itself or adding three dimensional elements, such as found objects, sewing, etc. to pieces make these particular artists noteworthy. These artists form the question of "what is considered photography?" with their work. Creating a conception of photography is precisely what these artist do and succeed at. Posing questions of identifying medium seems to be at the forefront of their pieces. Personally I would think of the pieces identified in this article as multi-medium. However, it appears that it is a choice of the artist to identify where their pieces fit in terms of medium.
